3 Reasons Why You Should Try Pilates
I went from the girl who could count how many times I worked out in college, to the woman who has to work out 3 times or more per week. I started to get serious 10 years ago, but the last several years I’ve been really committed to working out. Eating healthy isn’t my strength though, but that’s another post for another day, okay?
I remember taking my first HIIT class at a local LA Fitness. I had so many questions like, “So, what size weight should I be picking up?” to “What exactly is a dead lift?”
Ya’ girl was a NEWBIE. What made it more interesting was seeing a sweet older woman who could beat me in a push-up challenge ANY day. While I was still struggling on getting to five push-ups in a row with ease. However, starting from somewhere was the spark I needed. I wholeheartedly believe that stepping outside of my comfort zone was foundational. Weekly workouts have been a part of my weekly routine for years now. I consider this a personal achievement.
A fun part of getting out of my comfort zone at LA fitness was trying a Mat Pilates class. This was about 9-10 years ago. I thought it was going to be easy, but I was sadly mistaken. I also think it scared me and I vowed to NEVER take a Pilates class again. Or so I thought – insert the one and only ClassPass. This app has been an open door to getting to know Dallas so much more. As a DFW native, it’s easy to only consume what you know. With utilizing CP, I told myself to find workout classes that would get me out of my comfort zone. I ended up going back to a Pilates class a few years ago, but this time it was different. This time there was no mat, but a machine that looked intimidating.
Little did I know was that this machine would be proven to challenge my body in the BEST ways possible. If you haven’t tried a Pilates class where they use a reformer or megaformer, I HIGHLY recommend. Here are THREE reasons why I think EVERYONE should try a Pilates Class.
-
Mind-Body Connection
As a self-proclaimed deep thinker, I enjoy activities that keep me in the moment and OUT of my head. Rarely in a Pilates class am I thinking about anything else but making sure my core is activated. Anything that will keep me focused is a winner in my book!

Alleviates Back Pain
Many of us worked from home during the pandemic, which I am sure it has done numbers to our backs and posture. Pilates is low impact, but with the focus on the core as the foundation, it will help with back pain. I found out that Pilates is actual a key part of conditioning and rehabilitation for professional athletes. Which is great!

Builds Confidence
I love working out, but I wouldn’t call myself the most athletic person. I do love how Pilates makes me feel after all is said and done. It is incredible challenging, ESPECIALLY Solid Core. But I love how its pushed me to be okay with wearing my cute crop tops, even when my rolls are popping out. I love that carefree affect and being confident in my body.
While there are multiple reasons to try Pilates, these three hit close to home. If you are in the Dallas area I recommend Solid Core or Session Pilates. They are both DFW staples! Session Pilates has a $15 pricing for intro class. Solid Core has pricing for that same price and you also get another class free.
Whether you do Pilates or not, find something that you love. I believe that Purpose + Wellness go hand in hand!
