The 5 P’s of Stepping into Position

its here.gif

It’s here. It’s happening. The answered prayer and your MOMENT has arrived. Hair is laid and you have the outfit and shoes to match. You are ready for your debut. The car stops on the scene and the red carpet is rolled out – lights, camera, ACTION. It is GO-TIME, baby! However, once you get to the event you realize how unprepared you are. You have on summer shorts at a black-tie event? Read the room boo, read the room.

My mentor told me years ago, “You can’t wear a winter coat in the summer, there are shifts that need to take place in a new season.”

Can you relate? Well, I can. I have been reflecting on how I have handled transition seasons in the past. Even with new exciting opportunities, I’ve allowed how I did it in the past to direct my future. I didn’t dress for the occasion. A new season will require NEW things from you. So, let’s get into it.

In no particular order, here are The 5 P’s of Stepping into Position.

1.     Praise

I will give thanks to you Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. –Psalm 9:1

I am currently reading through the Psalms and David has me out here slain in the SPIRIT, okay? There is something about praise and worship that opens your heart and mind to see beyond what your flesh might be saying. When the breakthrough arrives, praise is the reminder that all things flow through Him. It changes the game when you know God is the sustainer of it all. I get this wrong and often I find myself trying to sustain what He blesses. We do the work and then let God do the rest.

What can you praise God for right now?

2.     Pause

My mom used to tell me, “We all know when Destiny’s up in the morning. She hits the ground running and is stomping all over the place.”

I walk hard guys, what can I say? As I am getting older, I am learning to pause in the morning and think about what is required from me. This same mindset is important in a new season. Pausing helps us to reflect and ask, “What is required from me in this new season?” It could range from creating boundaries around your expenses or resting more. It could be that if you’re in leadership, you may have to brush up on topics to be the best for your clients. It could be the new Mom that has to be intentional about her time, now that she has littles. Taking the time to assess what you need as you step UP, will help with not feeling all over the place. In the words of Zig Ziglar, “If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.”

Pause, reflect, set those goals, and go forth!

 3.     Pivot

Romans 12:2 says, “…be transformed by the RENEWING of your mind.”

A mindset pivot is important moving ahead. What we believe about ourselves will impact everything that we touch. Because we walk out what we believe and this could be good or bad. If we’re thinking the wrong things in a new season, we will continue to see more of the same. I don’t know about you, but imposter syndrome loves to sneak in during moments of transition. It is defined as, “the persistent inability to believe that one’s success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one’s efforts or skills.”

When I first changed my role back in 2019, I was on a call titled, “Bi-Weekly Leadership Call.” My boss was on, but I was scratching my head wondering where were the leaders, why didn’t they join the call, and unsure of why I was on it. As soon as it ended I realized ALL the leaders were on the call. This included me. While my title changed, my mindset did not. As Marshawn Evans would say, “Every life-shift begins with a mind-shift.”

Remember, old thinking/ways don’t open new doors. What current thought processes are hindering where you are and where you are headed?

The final two Ps of stepping into Position will be addressed next week! I hope you take the time to reflect and dig deep. Because the last two Ps are being ABOUT THAT ACTION. You ready?

Capturing Destiny Together,

Des

  1. The timing of this blog couldn’t be any better. I really needed this Des. Will take the time to pause and reflect on the questions. I want to be ready!

  2. Thank you for writing this blog post sis! We aren’t always aware of the impact of what we do so thank you to your good sis who reminded you. I feel you on that pause point. I really used to take the first hour and pray, read the word years ago and over time just lost the desire. I’m getting it back day by day because it’s so important to really assess vs going from thing to thing without really thinking in between. Looking forward to the next 2!

  3. I am in awe of how timely this blog is. Thank you sis for this word, I’m so appreciative of you and how you’re allowing God to move through you. Can’t wait for part 2!
